maybellene is really to be honest a bad song only because i hate that style of music, its like when your parents talk about their childhood and you tune them out completely.
I agree. It is difficult to find redeeming qualities in something that feels so distant from one's present situations. But, consider Chuck Berry was one of the first rock rebels. He spent almost all of his life with one foot in jail the other tapping to some serious guitar playing. He worked in an auto assembly plant too. There was nothing glamorous or refined about these things. As a result his music ignored the refined sounds of other pop stars and conveyed the edgy quality of his life. Just listen to the distorted guitar and his simple rhythm section-only band. So, see if in the future you can find a window of familiarity that you can enter through to appreciate an unfamiliar music.
